Introducing: The Social Media Crisis Handbook

In the run-up to the launch of our brand new Social Media Crisis Handbook, we surveyed nearly 100 people from a wide range of businesses on their crisis communications capabilities.

The results showed a shocking lack of understanding and crisis preparation across the board. Business leaders are falling behind, leaving their brands vulnerable to severe problems down the line.

Most significantly, we found that 71% of those surveyed have never completed an audit of their social media risks, even though nearly half of them have faced a crisis. While 69% admitted that their handling of crises was inadequate, a majority of companies say they still have no plans in place to deal with the next one.

While we expected to see massive gaps in some businesses, we were surprised at how pervasive and severe the problem actually is. Importantly, we learned that it’s not just large businesses that are vulnerable to the embarrassment and bottom-line pain caused by social media unrest – even the smallest businesses in our survey have been hit.
