Creative Director – Copywriting

The Creative Director oversees the quality and diversity of all copy ie Campaign Content, Always-On/Editorial and Real Time, Tactial, Adhoc content.

Main areas of responsibility


  • Responsible for advancing Cerebra’s creative reputation and industry reputation through exceptional relationships with our clients, award winning concepts, and a happy, motivated, and productive team of content creators.
  • Help clients succeed in the social realm, by having a strong demonstrable copy pedigree and understand intrinsically Cerebra’s role in the marketing ecosystem. Cerebra is a trailblazer in the marketing and advertising industry, and needs a creative giant to help drive that leadership even further
  • Lead concept and copy thinking, help define a creative vision or strategy (innovation & evolution) for various accounts and creative outputs according to this vision.
  • Review & approve work before it goes to client


  • Steer ideation on tier 1& 2 campaigns with the teams involved
  • Ensure collaboration amongst copywriters, designers and strategists to ensure alignment
  • 2 award winning worthy pieces of work


  • Lead key new business and client assignments that require senior social creative expertise
  • Collaborates with Advisory, Insights and Client Services to provide client solutions to drive and validate brand and business decisions
  • Recognise, nurture and help produce brave, fresh, world-class ideas.


  • Translate the brief & the strategic requirements into a compelling creative solution.
  • Contribution to and understanding of clients’ tone, strategy and personas
  • Lead on creative pitches for new and existing clients
  • Ensuring that design and copy is in line with strategy
  • Drive Editorial board process
  • Ensure logic flow of presentations

People management

  • Coach, mentor, manage career and personal development within the creative Foster and promote collaborative team-working.
  • Build and maintain a high performing team that develop through stretching targets
  • Identify talent within the creative team and develop individuals to full potential using the youtime process
  • Inspire the team to produce beautifully crafted and inspired creative work
  • Scout and interview new talent to build creative team and replace leavers
  • A creative giant who mentors juniors in the team

Client relationships

  • Build mutually constructive relationships with across client teams to identify client opportunities and develop potential projects
  • Ability to sell ‘big ideas’ by inspiring a senior client group
  • Maintain client relationships through proactive engagement

New Business Development

  • Take responsibility for pursuing new business opportunities as required
  • Regularly direct contributions to RFP and pitch content
  • Write case studies that demonstrate measurable solutions
  • Identify new and add-on business development opportunities with existing and new clients


  • Work in partnership with the Advisory, Insights, Creative and Client Services to develop content that is worthy of winning awards


  • 8-10 years
  • Must have been in a senior leadership position in creative role for at least 5 years
  • A deep understanding of digital marketing across channels
  • Have a strong, highly conceptual portfolio that exhibits a solid understanding of the various socal media platforms


  • Matric
  • Tertiary qualification in related field (e.g. communications,copywriting, journalism, english) essential.
